What Are Veneers?
Veneers are thin, custom-crafted shells made of porcelain or composite resin that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They are designed to improve the appearance of discolored, worn, chipped, misaligned, or irregularly shaped teeth. Porcelain veneers are well-known for their stain resistance and ability to mimic the light-reflecting properties of natural enamel, while composite veneers offer a more affordable option with a quicker application process. The treatment involves removing a small amount of enamel to ensure a comfortable fit, creating a seamless blend with your surrounding teeth. Veneers can be applied to one tooth or multiple teeth to achieve a balanced smile.
Who is a Candidate for Veneers?
Veneers are ideal for patients who have:
Persistent discoloration that does not respond to whitening treatments
• Chipped, worn, or misshapen teeth
• Small gaps between teeth
• Mildly crooked teeth
• Healthy teeth and gums
During your consultation, Dr. Lopez or Dr. Sosa will assess your teeth, discuss your goals, and determine whether veneers are the best option for achieving your desired results.
The Veneer Process
- Consultation and Planning
We begin with a detailed examination, photographs, and digital imaging to design your new smile. - Tooth Preparation
A thin layer of enamel is gently removed from the front surface of the tooth to make space for the veneer. - Impressions and Custom Fabrication
We take impressions that are sent to a dental lab, where your veneers are custom-made for color, shape, and fit. - Bonding and Final Adjustments
Once your veneers are ready, they are bonded to your teeth using a strong dental adhesive, and any necessary adjustments are made for comfort and appearance.
Results and Recovery
Veneers can last 10–15 years or longer with proper care. Maintain your results by brushing and flossing daily, avoiding chewing on hard objects, and visiting us regularly for cleanings and checkups. While porcelain veneers are highly stain-resistant, it is best to limit staining foods and beverages, including coffee, tea, and red wine, to keep them looking their best. If a veneer becomes damaged, it can be repaired or replaced to restore your smile.
